Paid Endorsements

So, 60 sixty statehouse Republicans have "asked" Nussle to run:

More than three-quarters of the Iowa Legislature's Republican members have signed a letter encouraging U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle to run for Iowa governor, a move intended to give the Manchester Republican an air of inevitability as he approaches the launch of his 2006 campaign.

In a conference call today, Republican leaders in the House and Senate said 21 senators and 39 representatives had petitioned the eight-term congressman to seek the 2006 nomination, and pledged to support him.

"Not only has Jim Nussle proven to be a winner, but he's proven to be a difference-maker," House Majority Leader Chuck Gipp of Decorah said. "And that's the kind of leadership and experience we need."

And how much did Chuck Gipp's stirring support cost Nussle? $1500 bucks this past election cycle. It's no secret that he's been buying statehouse support for a long time. In 2003-2004, I count thirty contributions to Iowa House and Senate candidates from his PAC, IowaPAC. I hope the Register spends a little bit of time making people aware of this as well.
